Global experts assemble at KMU for MeDeCon 2025

KARACHI: The much-anticipated two-day "MeDeCon 2025" International Medical & Dental Conference, themed “Educate, Innovate, Heal,” officially commenced today at Karachi Metropolitan University (KMU). Held at the university’s Ishtiaque Auditorium, the event brought together scholars, experts, students, and healthcare professionals to explore the latest advancements in medical and dental sciences.

Prof. Dr. Syed Shah Faisal chaired the conference, supported by Prof. Dr. Riffat Rasool as Secretary and Prof. Dr. Nasir Khan heading the Scientific Committee. The distinguished Vice Chancellor of KMU, Dr. Wasim Qazi, inaugurated the event as the chief guest, highlighting KMU’s dedication to fostering academic excellence and driving healthcare innovation.

In his keynote address, Dr. Shah Faisal stated that the conference aims to familiarize students with the structure of scientific conferences and equip them with the skills to prepare and present posters at international events. He praised the organizing committee and faculty for their efforts in hosting this international event within a short timeline.

The day kicked off with a career counseling session titled “A Guide to Career Success,” delivered by Dr. Syed Taimoor Asif, Assistant Professor of Cardiac Surgery at NICVD. It was followed by engaging research presentations from esteemed experts, including Dr. Farhan Raza, Professor of Operative Dentistry-Endodontics and Head of Dentistry at Aga Khan University, and Dr. Asad Khan Dharapariya, who discussed balancing medical education with practical experience and harnessing AI for smarter research.

Participants then enjoyed a networking tea break and attended a vibrant poster competition. Highlights of the day included lectures by Dr. Najeeb Saad on prosthodontics, Dr. Shoaib Haider on endodontics, and Dr. Saifyan Ahmed on oral squamous cell carcinoma.

The conference addressed cutting-edge topics such as managing obstructive sleep apnea in general dental practice, cleft care in Pakistan, and the role of CD markers in chronic periodontitis. Esteemed speakers, including Dr. Muhammad Ashraf Ganatra and Prof. Dr. S. M. Balaji, shared their insights on these critical issues.

After a lunch and prayer break, the program resumed with sessions on orthodontics, periodontics, and endodontics, featuring notable experts like Dr. Irfan Qamaruddin and Dr. Abdullah Kamran.

MeDeCon 2025 serves as a platform for knowledge-sharing and collaboration, reinforcing KMU’s position as a hub for academic excellence and innovation in the medical and dental fields.
