KARACHI: A new chapter in Pakistan’s dental education began as Jinnah Medical & Dental College (JMDC) officially inducted its BDS Batch 28 through a thoughtfully designed Commencement Day and orientation programme, transforming the first day of college into a milestone moment for the nation’s future dentists.

The ceremony gathered senior leadership and teaching faculty from both the dental and medical colleges, highlighting a shared commitment to nurturing students who will combine clinical excellence with strong ethical values and patient-centered care. In their welcome remarks, Principal of the Dental College Prof. Dr. M. Junaid Lakhani and Principal of the Medical College Prof. Dr. Atif Mehmood congratulated the new batch and encouraged them to begin their professional journey with discipline, empathy, and dedication to learning.

Offering a broader vision for their future, Chairman of Sohail Trust Dr. Syed Tariq Sohail addressed the students with a message focused on responsibility and service. He reminded them that dentistry extends beyond technical skills, linking their future work directly to public health and community wellbeing, and urged them to commit themselves to integrity and lifelong growth.

The programme then shifted from inspiration to preparation. Students were introduced to their departmental faculty, helping establish early academic bonds. A detailed academic briefing by Mrs. Debra Lobo covered institutional policies, curriculum design, and assessment systems, ensuring that the incoming batch clearly understood the standards and expectations that will shape their professional training.

The day concluded with a group photograph that captured the excitement and optimism of students standing alongside the mentors who will guide them in the years ahead. For JMDC, the induction of BDS Batch 28 represents more than a new intake; it reflects a strategic investment in strengthening Pakistan’s oral healthcare system through well-trained and socially responsible professionals.

As these students begin their academic journey, they carry with them not only textbooks and timetables but also the responsibility of becoming the dentists who will care for future generations. Their first day at JMDC marks the starting point of a path that will ultimately shape countless lives—one patient and one smile at a time.
