KARACHI: Prof Dr Arshad Mahmood Malik has become the first Pakistani to be appointed Registrar of Section XX of the International College of Dentists (ICD), marking a significant milestone for Pakistan's dental profession and its representation within international dental leadership.
The appointment places a Pakistani dental leader in one of the key administrative positions of the International College of Dentists, a globally recognized honorary organization dedicated to promoting leadership, ethics, education, humanitarian service, and professional excellence in dentistry.
Dental professionals across Pakistan have welcomed the development, describing it as an important achievement that reflects the growing international recognition of Pakistani dentistry and the contributions of its professionals to global oral healthcare and dental education.
Speaking after the announcement, Prof Malik expressed gratitude for the opportunity and described the appointment as a matter of national pride.
“Thanks to Almighty Allah for honouring Pakistan with this opportunity for the first time,” he said.
The International College of Dentists is regarded as one of the world's most prestigious dental organizations, bringing together distinguished dental professionals from across the globe. Leadership appointments within the organization are considered significant recognitions of professional achievement, service, and commitment to advancing the profession.
Colleagues and members of the dental community congratulated Prof Malik on the achievement, noting that his appointment highlights the increasing role of Pakistani dental professionals in international professional organizations and decision-making forums.
Among those extending congratulations was senior dentist Dr Iqbal Khalidi, who described the appointment as a historic moment for Pakistan's dental fraternity. He said the recognition reflects Prof Malik's longstanding contributions to dentistry, professional leadership, and academic development.
The appointment is expected to further strengthen Pakistan's engagement with the international dental community and create new opportunities for professional collaboration, knowledge exchange, and leadership development.
