KARACHI: Two recent graduates of the Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine (AIDM) have earned international recognition after being selected for a prestigious global oral health leadership program and receiving fully funded scholarships to present their research in the United States.
Muhammad Ali Syed and Shamim Ashraf, both recent Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) graduates, were selected for the Student Leadership Global Oral Health Program 2026, a nine-month virtual initiative aimed at developing future leaders in oral healthcare through mentorship, leadership training, and international collaboration.
Their selection also earned them fully funded scholarships supported by the Alliance for Oral Health Across Borders, enabling them to attend and present their research at the One Voice Conference 2026, held from June 4 to 6 in Dallas, Texas.
The conference brought together oral health professionals, researchers, educators, policymakers, and student leaders from around the world to discuss emerging challenges and opportunities in global oral healthcare.
The achievement highlights the growing participation of young Pakistani dental professionals in international academic and research platforms. By presenting their work before a global audience, the graduates had the opportunity to showcase research contributions from Pakistan while engaging with leading experts in the field.
Academic leaders say international leadership and research programs play an important role in preparing future healthcare professionals for evolving global challenges. Such initiatives provide exposure to diverse perspectives, encourage cross-border collaboration, and strengthen research and leadership capabilities among emerging professionals.
The Student Leadership Global Oral Health Program is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to advance oral health through research, advocacy, education, and community engagement. The program also fosters networking opportunities among young professionals committed to improving oral healthcare outcomes worldwide.
AIDM officials described the achievement as a reflection of the institute’s commitment to promoting academic excellence, research, and leadership development among its students and graduates.
The selection of Muhammad Ali Syed and Shamim Ashraf for the international program and their successful participation in the One Voice Conference underscore the increasing visibility of Pakistani dental researchers in global health forums and highlight the expanding opportunities available to young professionals from the country.
Their accomplishment is being viewed as an encouraging example for aspiring dental students interested in pursuing careers in research, leadership, and international oral health initiatives.
