KARACHI: Professor Dr Naseer Ahmed, Vice Principal and Head of the Department of Prosthodontics at Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine (AIDM), Karachi, has been included for the second consecutive year in the Stanford–Elsevier database of the world’s top 2% scientists, marking another milestone in his academic and research career.

In the latest 2025–2026 TOPSCINET researcher rankings, Dr Ahmed secured 1,101st position in the Dentistry subfield and ranked 232,784th globally in the single-year research-impact category. His research profile also records an h-index of 10 and a co-authorship-adjusted hm-index of 3.

The recognition follows his inclusion in the 2025 edition, when he ranked 1,666th in Dentistry and 336,643rd globally, according to figures published by Dental News Pakistan last year.

The latest rankings reflect the citation impact of his scientific publications, with the single-year assessment measuring citations received during the 2025 calendar year. The database evaluates researchers across scientific disciplines using standardised bibliometric indicators, including citations, the h-index and co-authorship-adjusted measures.

Dr Ahmed’s research spans prosthodontics, dental materials, restorative aesthetics, artificial intelligence and patient-centred dental care, areas that are increasingly influenced by advances in digital technology and evidence-based clinical practice.

AIDM congratulated Dr Ahmed on the achievement, describing it as a source of pride for the institution and its academic community. The recognition also highlights the contribution of Pakistani dental researchers to international scientific literature.

Speaking to Dental News Pakistan, Dr Ahmed expressed gratitude to his institution, mentors, colleagues and students for their support and encouragement. He said he hoped the achievement would inspire further contributions to dental research and education.

Dr Ahmed holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), Fellowship of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (FCPS), and a PhD earned in Malaysia. At AIDM, his responsibilities combine academic leadership, specialist clinical practice, research and the education of future dental professionals.

As a consultant prosthodontist, his specialty focuses on restoring and replacing missing or damaged teeth and associated oral structures through treatments such as crowns, bridges, dentures and implant-supported restorations. Advances in digital dentistry and restorative materials have expanded research opportunities in treatment precision, aesthetics, durability and patient outcomes.

Dr Ahmed has also contributed to academic publishing, with editorial responsibilities associated with the Altamash Journal of Dentistry and Medicine and the Journal of Basic and Clinical Dentistry. Such work supports the dissemination and evaluation of research findings and helps develop the academic environment in which emerging dental researchers can build their careers.

The Stanford–Elsevier database, formally titled Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators, was developed by Stanford University researcher John P. A. Ioannidis and uses bibliometric information derived from Scopus. Its assessments cover career-long and single-year research impact across 20 major scientific fields and 174 subfields.

Inclusion in the database indicates recognition under its citation-based methodology, rather than a comprehensive assessment of every aspect of a scientist’s work. The rankings provide one measure of research influence and should be considered alongside the quality, relevance and practical impact of scientific contributions.

For AIDM, Dr Ahmed’s consecutive inclusion provides further visibility for its academic and research activities. His achievement also underscores the importance of sustained scientific publishing, mentorship and institutional support in strengthening dental research and education in Pakistan.
