KARACHI: The Department of Prosthodontics at Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine (AIDM) recently organized a comprehensive dental veneer preparation workshop, equipping final-year BDS students with practical, skill-based training in aesthetic restorative techniques.

The workshop focused on enhancing clinical competence in modern prosthodontics by blending evidence-based theoretical learning with structured, hands-on application. The initiative is part of AIDM’s ongoing effort to strengthen the bridge between classroom knowledge and real-world dental practice.

What students learned

Participants were guided through essential principles and techniques involved in veneer preparation, including:
• Understanding core concepts of veneer tooth preparation
• Identifying appropriate types, shapes, and reduction measurements
• Precisely preparing tooth #11 to receive a ceramic veneer

Faculty leadership and training format

The workshop was facilitated by an expert team of prosthodontists:

  • Prof. Dr. Naseer Ahmed, PhD, FCPS

  • Dr. Shuja Adil, MDS

  • Dr. Aiman Yaseen, FCPS II

  • Dr. Hawa Bashir, FCPS II

The day’s learning began with a structured lecture session held in the main auditorium, followed by an immersive hands-on training module conducted in the department’s skill lab. Students were actively engaged in the process and received e-certificates upon completion to mark their participation and skill development.

This training session is a reflection of AIDM’s strong academic ethos, which places equal emphasis on knowledge, precision, and patient-centered care. By focusing on real-time skill acquisition, the institute continues to shape confident graduates ready to meet the evolving demands of clinical dentistry.
