WASHINGTON, D.C./KARACHI: Pakistan’s role in shaping future global economic and policy agendas took center stage at a high-level US Capitol forum, where Prof. Dr. Wasim Qazi, Vice Chancellor of Karachi Metropolitan University (KMU), highlighted the country’s potential in education, innovation, and workforce development.
The symposium, “U.S.–Pakistan: Past, Present, and Future,” convened under the Congressional Pakistan Caucus by Representatives Tom Suozzi and Jack Bergman, brought together policymakers, thought leaders, and industry experts to discuss opportunities for deeper bilateral cooperation across security, history, and economic growth.
From Diplomacy to Development
Addressing the forum, Prof. Dr. Qazi emphasized that Pakistan’s global competitiveness will increasingly depend on its ability to align education and skills training with international business requirements. He argued that cultivating talent and fostering innovation ecosystems are essential for:
- Boosting workforce productivity
- Attracting foreign investment
- Driving sustainable economic growth
Highlighting the gap between academia and industry, he called for a more integrated approach, where universities serve as incubators of practical skills and innovation capable of meeting global market demands.
Shaping Future Partnerships
Beyond his address, Prof. Dr. Qazi engaged with officials including Rizwan Sheikh and Natalie Baker, discussing opportunities to strengthen institutional partnerships and collaborative platforms. These discussions reflect a growing belief that the next generation of diplomacy will be knowledge-driven, with education, innovation, and talent development shaping long-term strategic ties.
The event underlined a critical message: countries that fail to invest in their human capital risk being left behind in a rapidly evolving global economy. Prof. Dr. Qazi’s presence at such a prominent forum positions Pakistan as a nation ready to actively participate in solution-oriented dialogues and international economic planning.
As the world’s economic landscape evolves, Pakistan’s focus on modernizing education systems, nurturing innovation, and developing a skilled workforce could prove decisive in shaping its international engagement and economic trajectory in the coming decade.
