LAHORE – As the CMH Medical College celebrated the Community Dentistry Day on 18th May 2015, the Department of Community and Preventive Dentistry organized an annual competition among 2nd year BDS students.

The seven groups participating in the contest covered important topics like; Oral Cancer, Periodontal Disease, Oral health & nutrition, Smoking, Oral ulcers, Pits and fissure sealants, and Infection control in dental office.

There were two aspects to the competition; Oral presentations and Poster Competitions.

The panel of Judges for this competition comprised of; Dr Faisal Izhar – Associate Professor and Head of Fatima Memorial Hospital along with Dr Bilal Abdul Qayum Mirza – Head of the Departement of Community And Preventive Dentistry at Institute of Dentstry, CMH Medical College in Lahore. They evaluated and marked different aspects of the presentations and posters. 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions were then announced.

The first position was clinched by the group D, who discussed the topic of “Smoking”, with Maryum Aslam, Maryum Minhas, Maryum Mahmood, Maysa Nasir, Mehak Fatima, Minahil Javed and Khadija Ashfaq as its members.

The 2nd Place went to Group A, covering the topic; “Oral Cancers”. The members of this group included; Afifa Shahid, Ahmed Manzoor, Ali Kamran, Amber Jehangir, Kanza Iqbal, Anum Imtiaz, Anusha Numan Mian and Areeba Zaman.

The 3rd prize went to Group E with the topic; “Oral Ulcer”. The group comprised of Munazza Sajjad Malik, Maha Shahid, Neha Usman, Nurain Rehman, Rabiya Naeem and Rida Fatima.

Dr Arham Nawaz Chohan Associate Professor and Head of Operative and Paedodontics Department announced the results finalized by the judges. Professor Qasim Saeed – Dean, Institute of Dentistry, CMH Medical College distributed the shields to the winning groups.

After the competition, Dr Faisal Izhar was asked to comment on the performance of the students. He appreciated the efforts of the students and teachers. He also added that the level of confidence among the students was commendable. This is a platform provided by the Department of Community and Preventive Dentistry to bring out the best in their students. Professor Qasim Saeed appreciated the efforts of; Dr Bilal Abdul Qayum Mirza, Dr Asma Shakoor and Dr Ali Anwar for organizing this event.-PR
