Dow International Dental College honours house officers at 5th Research Day

KARACHI: Dow International Dental College (DIDC), Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), honoured its 2026 House Officers at a ceremony marking the completion of their house-job training, alongside the fifth House Officer Research Day at the college’s Chanesar Campus.

The event brought together graduating House Officers, faculty members and university leadership for the distribution of House Job Certificates and presentation of research projects undertaken across different departments of the dental college.

Prof. Dr. Nazli Hossain, Vice Chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences, attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest, while Prof. Dr. Amynah Charana Shaikh, Principal of Dow International Dental College, led the programme.

The research competition featured projects from several departments, with the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery department securing the First Prize for its project, “CCN1 Expression and Its Association with Field Cancerization in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma.”

The General Pathology department received the Second Prize, while the Dental Materials department won the Third Prize for its project, “Bio functional Modification of Restorative GIC with Miswak Extract.”

The research presentations covered a range of areas within dentistry, including oral cancer, pathology and dental materials, giving House Officers an opportunity to engage with academic research alongside their clinical training.

The winning Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery project focused on CCN1 expression and its association with field cancerization in oral squamous cell carcinoma, an area relevant to research into changes associated with oral cancer.

The Dental Materials project examined the modification of restorative glass ionomer cement using Miswak extract, reflecting research into the development and evaluation of dental materials using a locally relevant approach.

The programme also marked the completion of house-job training for the 2026 House Officers, a key stage of postgraduate clinical development following undergraduate dental education. The House Job Certificates formally recognised the completion of their clinical training and responsibilities.

By combining certificate distribution with the annual research competition, DIDC highlighted both the clinical training and academic work of its graduating House Officers, while providing a platform for young dental professionals to present research undertaken during their training.

The fifth House Officer Research Day thus formed part of DIDC’s ongoing academic activities, bringing research and clinical education together as the college recognised the latest group of House Officers.
