KARACHI: Federal Minister for Education, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, emphasized that Pakistan’s youth should be regarded as the country’s greatest asset, essential to national progress and development, during his speech at the inaugural session of the International Medical Education Conference (IMECon) held at Liaquat College of Medicine and Dentistry (LCMD).

The event, attended by key figures in the medical and political fields, including Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal, President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), and Senator Aamir Waliuddin Chishti, Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Health, was marked by lively discussions on the future of medical education and the role of youth in shaping the nation.

Dr. Siddiqui argued that Pakistan's youth should not be viewed as a burden but as the primary driving force for the country’s future. “Our youth is not a liability; it is Pakistan’s biggest strength,” he remarked. He also addressed the topic of migration, suggesting that the term “brain drain” should be replaced with “brain train,” highlighting how young people who study abroad often return to contribute to Pakistan’s growth.

The federal minister also tackled the issue of women’s education, noting that while Pakistani women are excelling academically, nearly 80% of women are confined to their homes after completing their education. He urged families to support women in pursuing professional careers, stressing the importance of not undermining their aspirations. “You may hand a broom to your daughters, but do not take away their stethoscope,” he said, criticizing the social attitudes that limit women's career opportunities despite large public investments in their education.

Dr. Siddiqui also praised the efforts of Senator Aamir Waliuddin Chishti, noting his significant role in expanding opportunities in medical education and transforming Liaquat College of Medicine and Dentistry into a reputable institution known for its transparency and high standards.

Senator Chishti echoed the sentiments, stating that medical institutions are established for long-term national impact, not short-term success. He highlighted that the success of LCMD is due to its strong leadership, high standards, and community-oriented vision, where students receive academic, ethical, and professional training.

Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal, President of CPSP, also spoke at the event, outlining CPSP’s initiatives to improve the quality of medical education, enhance faculty development, and introduce transparent examination systems. These reforms have enabled institutions like LCMD to meet international standards in medical education.

Senator Samina Mumtaz Zahri emphasized the importance of equal access to education and healthcare, stressing the need for a transparent and inclusive system. Senator Sarmad Ali called for educational policy reforms and institutional strengthening to ensure that Pakistan’s educational and healthcare systems continue to evolve.

Dr. Ali Farhan Rizvi, Vice Chairman of LCMD and Darul Sehat Hospital, reflected on the institution’s 26-year journey, its collaborations with CPSP and Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation, and the vital role of high-volume clinical training in shaping competent healthcare professionals.

In closing, Prof. Dr. Naveed Rashid Qureshi, Principal of the College of Dentistry, and Prof. Dr. Rashid Naseem Khan, Principal of the College of Medicine, expressed their gratitude to the distinguished guests and underscored that IMECon 2026 not only highlighted the standard of medical education in Pakistan but also reinforced the country’s academic presence on the global stage.
