KARACHI- As many as 2,200 graduates and postgraduates of Dow University Health Sciences (DUHS) were conferred degrees at its 6th convocation held at its Ojha campus.
They included fresh graduates of MBBS, BDS, Nursing and Medical Technology programmes as well the postgraduates of various disciplines such as M. Phil, Masters in Dental Surgery, Masters in Health Professional Education, Masters in Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Masters in Business Administration and M. Sc (Diabetes and Endocrinology) of 2008-09 batch.
The convocation ceremony began with arrival of the academic procession and after national anthem, DUHS’s vice chancellor Prof Masood Hameed Khan, declared the convocation open.
Sardar Yaseen Malik was the chief guest at the ceremony which was largely attended by DUHS’ faculty members, dignitaries and parents of graduates and postgraduates.
The chief guest and DUHS vice chancellor gave away gold medals and shields to the meritorious students.
Chairman Organization Committee and Pro Vice Chancellor of DUHS, Prof Muhammad Masroor, in his brief speech, said that convocation is a memorable day in the life of students and their parents.
He felicitated the graduates and postgraduates student and their parents and hoped that the passing out graduates will serve the nation with dedication and acquire success in their future endeavors.
Speaking on the occasion, Sardar Yaseen Malik, exhorted the graduates to realize that the profession they have chosen demands services to the humanity, irrespective of cast, creed or color.
He felicitated the graduates and postgraduates and their parents.
Earlier, recounting the progress of DUHS, Prof Masood Hameed said that the university since its inception had produced 7,382 graduates and 1,190 postgraduate students in all specialties of medical and allied sciences. He also informed about various courses and diploma programmes introduced by Dow University.
He said that the vision and mission of DUHS was focused on three domains that include academic excellence, human resource development and community healthcare. The University’s aim is to provide maximum possible health services to the community.
He felicitated young graduates and their parents for acquiring the degree with their continuous hard work.
