LAHORE: The Pakistan Dental Association (PDA) Lahore Chapter, in collaboration with senior Punjab Police officials and healthcare experts, organized a major oral cancer awareness campaign in Lahore to highlight the growing health risks associated with tobacco and smokeless nicotine products in Pakistan.

The awareness initiative brought together oral and maxillofacial surgeons, dental professionals, policymakers, and law enforcement representatives to promote preventive healthcare, early diagnosis, and public education regarding oral cancer, which experts say is becoming an increasing public health concern across the country.

A detailed awareness session was conducted during the event where renowned oral health expert Prof. Dr. Riaz Warraich briefed participants on the early signs, causes, and prevention of oral cancer. He stressed the importance of routine oral examinations and timely medical consultation, particularly for individuals exposed to smoking, gutka, naswar, and other smokeless tobacco products.

Senior Punjab Police officials, including high-ranking representatives of the department, participated in the campaign and awareness walk, reflecting institutional support for health education and disease prevention initiatives.

The awareness walk was attended by government officials, healthcare practitioners, dental specialists, and members of the police force, highlighting growing cooperation between public institutions and the healthcare community in addressing preventable diseases through awareness campaigns.

Participants noted that oral cancer cases continue to rise in Pakistan due to widespread tobacco consumption, delayed diagnosis, and limited public awareness regarding oral hygiene and screening practices.

Dental experts at the event emphasized that sustained public engagement, regular screening programs, and educational outreach remain critical in reducing the burden of oral cancer and encouraging healthier lifestyle choices among the population.

Organizers described the campaign as part of broader efforts to strengthen preventive healthcare awareness and encourage collaborative public health initiatives involving medical professionals, policymakers, and community institutions.
