KARACHI: The Pakistan Prosthodontics Association (PPA) organized its 12th Annual Symposium at Bahria Dental College, Bahria University Health Sciences Campus Karachi (BUHSC-K), bringing together more than 300 dental professionals, including prosthodontists, faculty members, postgraduate residents, and students from across the country.

The scientific event served as a platform for academic exchange and professional development, focusing on emerging trends in prosthodontics, advancements in digital dentistry, and the evolving landscape of postgraduate dental education in Pakistan.

The symposium was held under the leadership of PPA President Dr. Syed Murtaza Raza Kazmi and Patron-in-Chief Prof. Dr. Nazia Yazdanie, who emphasized the association’s continued commitment to strengthening specialty training and improving standards of patient care.

Speaking at the opening session, Prof. Dr. Nazia Yazdanie provided an overview of prosthodontics residency training in Pakistan, highlighting its evolution, current challenges, and future opportunities for development within the specialty.

A key session of the symposium focused on the growing role of artificial intelligence in dental education. Speakers discussed how AI-based tools are increasingly being integrated into teaching methods, clinical decision-making, assessment systems, and digital learning platforms, reshaping modern dental training.

The scientific program also featured expert presentations on implant dentistry, sinus augmentation, prosthetic rehabilitation, and digital workflows. Renowned clinicians including Dr. Taimur Khalid, Dr. Irfan Qureshi, Prof. Dr. Hina Zafar Raja, Dr. Ninnette Banday, and Dr. Munis Mukhtar shared evidence-based approaches and highlighted recent advancements in restorative and implant prosthodontics.

Another important segment of the symposium focused on occlusion, where senior faculty members emphasized its critical role in achieving long-term success in restorative dental treatments. Speakers stressed that proper understanding of occlusal principles remains essential for accurate diagnosis, treatment planning, and durable prosthetic outcomes.

The event also included a panel discussion on “Challenges in Prosthodontics Residency Training in Pakistan,” chaired by Prof. Dr. Nazia Yazdanie. The panel addressed issues such as curriculum development, clinical training exposure, research opportunities, mentorship, and assessment standards in postgraduate programs.

Participants noted that the discussion provided valuable insight for young dentists and residents navigating their academic and professional development within the specialty.

The symposium concluded with acknowledgments of organizing teams, faculty contributors, and industry partners who supported the event. Organizers said the participation of professionals from across Pakistan reflected the growing importance of continuing dental education and interdisciplinary collaboration in advancing prosthodontic practice.

The PPA reaffirmed its commitment to promoting scientific learning, leadership development, and innovation in prosthodontics as dentistry continues to evolve with digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
