KARACHI: A range of community outreach activities were conducted by the Dental Hygiene Programme at Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH), Karachi, led by Programme Director Dr Ali Sadiq, to celebrate National Dental Hygiene Month, impacting as many as 700 individuals through screening and awareness raising sessions.
In a concerted effort to raise awareness about oral health, the programme, driven by a team of dental hygienists and dental hygiene students, conducted impactful outreach initiatives across diverse communities in Karachi, Pakistan. These efforts proved highly successful, reaching and educating over 700 individuals about the critical importance of maintaining oral hygiene.
The outreach sessions were focused on empowering individuals with knowledge about oral hygiene. The dental hygienists and dental hygiene students shared their expertise and insights, emphasising the profound implications of oral health on overall well-being.
In addition to education, the programme extended to practical action, by providing over 400 school-going children with oral screenings, to ensure that knowledge is coupled with tangible care.
Dr Sadiq expressed satisfaction with the programme's success, stating, "Our celebration of National Dental Hygiene Month underscores our unwavering commitment to fostering a culture of oral health awareness within our community. It is about making a tangible difference in the lives of those we reach, through education and comprehensive oral screenings."
The AKUH dental hygiene programme serves as a model to promote oral health awareness and positively impact the lives of the community members it serves.
