KARACHI: The Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine (AIDM), through its Research Development and Review Cell, organized a highly impactful workshop titled “Common mistakes in manuscript writing – how to write a scholarly article.” The full-day training attracted 36 participants, including dental students, young researchers, and faculty members determined to strengthen their academic writing skills.
The workshop was conducted by Dr Fahim Vohra, an internationally recognized researcher and clinician, currently serving as Director, Predoc Pros Clinics and Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Minnesota’s School of Dentistry. With over 400 peer-reviewed scientific publications, Dr Vohra shared his extensive expertise, offering participants rare insights into the world of academic publishing.
Key highlights of the workshop
- Comprehensive guidance on structuring manuscripts, from titles and abstracts to methodology and discussion.
- Practical exercises and real-world examples to help participants avoid common manuscript writing mistakes.
- A live Q&A session focusing on responding to reviewer feedback and understanding journal expectations.
- Insider advice on what editors and reviewers look for in high-quality submissions.
Event coordinators Dr Resham Nadeem and Shamim Ashraf noted that the session received overwhelmingly positive feedback. Participants, who were awarded certificates of participation, expressed strong interest in future workshops on literature review, systematic writing, and research ethics.
This initiative reflects AIDM’s commitment to advancing research culture, critical thinking, and publication ethics among dental professionals in Pakistan. By providing access to international expertise, the institute continues to empower dental students and early-career researchers to publish impactful scholarly work in reputable journals.
