KARACHI: A career counselling session at Baqai Dental College has brought renewed focus on international opportunities for Pakistani dental graduates, particularly the Australian Dental Council (ADC) pathway for those seeking to build careers in Australia.

The session, titled “Beyond BDS: Road to Australia,” was attended by final-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) students and house officers. It aimed to provide structured guidance on post-graduation options, with a specific focus on overseas licensing routes in dentistry.

Speakers at the session outlined the step-by-step process of the ADC pathway, including the initial assessment, written examination, and clinical practical evaluation required for registration in Australia.

Prof. Dr. Saima Akram Butt, a certified ADC trainer, led the discussion and explained various aspects of exam preparation and professional requirements. She emphasized that while the pathway is competitive, success depends largely on structured preparation, consistency, and familiarity with international clinical standards.

Participants were also introduced to a guided preparation approach designed to help candidates understand exam expectations and improve readiness for assessment stages.

The session further highlighted a growing trend of Pakistani dentists pursuing and successfully establishing careers in Australia after clearing ADC requirements. This has contributed to increasing interest among students in understanding global licensing frameworks earlier in their academic journey.

Faculty members noted that awareness of international career pathways is becoming increasingly important as healthcare professions become more globally integrated.

The interactive session concluded with a question-and-answer segment, where students discussed preparation strategies, timelines, and future career planning options.

Organizers said the initiative aimed to provide clarity to students at an early stage, enabling them to make informed decisions about their professional direction after graduation.
