BDC team shines at poster, 3-D model contest at ISRA University

KARACHI: The Baqai Dental College (BDC) students stood out at an intra-provincial Poster and 3D Model competition, recently organized by the Faculty of Dentistry and Allied Sciences at ISRA University, Hyderabad, attracting participation from universities across the region.

The BDC team was led by Dr. Arsalan Mirza, Head of the Oral Biology Department, and supported by Principal Prof. Dr. Farhan Khan, who facilitated faculty and students' participation in the event.

Student teams from various universities submitted creative posters and 3D models for the competition. Following a rigorous selection process, approximately 30 projects were shortlisted for display on the event day.

A team from BDC’s Department of Oral Biology, comprising Dr. Shafaq Roghay, Dr. Marwah Berkathullah, Dr. Maryam Riaz, and Dr. Fatima Tuz Zehra, along with first-year BDS students, presented four posters and two 3D display models, demonstrating meticulous preparation and high enthusiasm.

The judging panel, featuring distinguished professors from a reputable university, conducted a thorough evaluation. During the oral presentation segment, BDC students impressed the jury with confident answers to challenging questions, showcasing their comprehensive understanding of the topics.

The event concluded with an awards ceremony, where the Registrar and Dean of ISRA University recognised the outstanding participants.

BDC secured 1st place in the Best 3D Model category, with students Muhammad Asqam Farooq, M. Usman Liaqat, Rafay M. Noon, and Zahra Batool winning for their innovative cross-sectional 3D model depicting dentine sensitivity, supervised by Dr. Marwah Berkathullah.

In addition, BDC students Yousra Nouman, Mimbra Shahzad, and Abdu Rehman Zarqavi, also under Dr. Marwah Berkathullah’s guidance, earned 3rd place in the Best Poster Competition for their exceptional work.

This achievement brought pride to both the BDC students and faculty, reflecting their dedication, teamwork, and hard work.
