KARACHI: In a significant step towards strengthening its academic and research framework, Baqai Dental College has announced two major faculty appointments — Dr. Shafaq Saeed Roghay as Vice Principal (Academics) and Dr. Mohsin Nazir joining the Department of Prosthodontics.

These appointments reflect the college’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and the development of future-ready dental professionals.

Dr. Shafaq Saeed Roghay, a distinguished academician and respected senior faculty member in the Department of Oral Biology, brings over 13 years of teaching experience to her new role. A proud Baqai alumna, Dr. Roghay has been instrumental in modernizing the curriculum and aligning academic programs with international best practices in dental sciences.

Her vision emphasizes evidence-based learning, faculty empowerment, and student-centered growth, ensuring that Baqai Dental College continues to produce globally competent dental graduates. As Vice Principal (Academics), she plans to enhance institutional quality through improved faculty support, academic innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Meanwhile, the college has also welcomed Dr. Mohsin Nazir to the Department of Prosthodontics, further enriching its academic and research landscape.

Dr. Nazir is internationally recognized for his pioneering contributions to implantology research, notably as a member of the Rectangular Block Implant (RBI) research team at the University of Melbourne. The RBI system — covered under European, Australian, and US patent applications — aims to benefit nearly 20% of patients who cannot undergo conventional dental implant procedures.

The project incorporates patented piezo-surgical instruments, including the Rectangular Saw Insert, which enables minimally invasive bone cutting during implant preparation. The ongoing pilot phase has shown promising outcomes in implant stability and long-term clinical success.

Dr. Nazir also completed his MDSc from the University of Malaya, where he worked on implant surface modification to enhance osseointegration and improve treatment outcomes for a majority of dental patients in Southeast Asia. His expertise in clinical trials, ethical standards, and regulatory compliance brings exceptional value to Baqai Dental College’s growing research ecosystem.

Both Dr. Roghay and Dr. Nazir — esteemed alumni of Baqai Dental College — represent the institution’s commitment to cultivating homegrown excellence while engaging with global research frontiers. Their appointments symbolize a new chapter in Baqai’s journey toward becoming a regional hub of dental innovation, academic leadership, and evidence-based education.
