KARACHI: Fatima Jinnah Dental College (FJDC) used the auspicious occasion of Independence Day not only to celebrate freedom but also to create awareness about hepatitis by marking Hepatitis Awareness Day.

The hepatitis awareness drive featured a series of meticulously prepared skits by the second-year students, highlighting various modes of hepatitis transmission, besides prevention and treatment strategies.

The drive warned of different ways through which the disease is transmitted, including its spread through needle sharing among drug addicts and contaminated food consumption and even tattoo parlors.

The event also included a podcast session by the second-year BDS students, featuring Dr Munawar Alam (Head of Biochemistry-FJDC), Dr Bilal Bashir (Head of Oral Biology-FJDC), and Dr Nousheen Khawar (Head of Dental Material-FJDC). This expert panel shared invaluable insights, further cementing the importance of staying informed and proactive in the fight against the hepatitis menace.

Addressing the audience, Dr Hussain Askary (CEO & Head of Community Dentistry-FJDC) emphasised the importance of awareness activities in safeguarding the broader community against the disease.

Dr Hussain lauded the students for their exceptional performance and unwavering dedication, acknowledging the efforts by each participant.

Following the hepatitis awareness session, the campus transformed into a tapestry of culture and tradition to celebrate Independence Day.

BDS first-year students clad in dazzling traditional dresses, highlighted various aspects of Pakistan’s rich heritage – from diverse culinary wonders to the myriad languages and graceful attires -- symbolizing the nation’s unity in diversity.

The session also featured spirited dance performances by students to the traditional Pakistani tunes, evoking a sense of pride and belonging.

Dr Baqar Askary, Chairman of FJDC, in his speech highlighted the vital role Pakistan plays in our lives, urging the students to make collective efforts to shape a brighter future for the nation.
