HITEC-IMS Taxila convocation for first MBBS, BDS batches

TAXILA: The HITEC-Institute of Medical Sciences, Taxila, held its inaugural convocation at the HITEC-IMS Auditorium, marking a significant milestone for both the MBBS and BDS pioneer batches. The distinguished event was graced by Dr Arif Alvi, President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, along with esteemed guests, including Lt. Gen Wasim Alamgir HI (M), the Vice Chancellor of NUMS, Maj Gen Shakir Ullah Khattak, HI(M), the Chairman of HIT, and other notable dignitaries.

A total of 85 medical and 44 dental graduates were conferred with MBBS and BDS degrees respectively, signifying not only the recognition and celebration of their accomplishments but also the beginning of their professional journey as medical and dental practitioners.

In their welcoming speeches, the principals of the institute’s dental and medical colleges lauded the dedication and tireless efforts put by both the students and the faculty, acknowledging the challenging academic journey of the graduates, highlighting their perseverance and determination.

Dr Irfan Shah, the Principal of Dental College HITEC, appraised the audience of achievements of the institute, especially mentioning that it won an esteemed A Category ranking by PM&DC and received recognition from CPSP for post-graduate residency programmes.

He said the institution takes pride in its own magazine, scientific journal, newsletter, and research yearbook.

Retired Maj Gen Hamid Shafiq, the Principal of Medical College, thanked the distinguished guests for gracing the convocation ceremony, urging the graduates to utilise their knowledge to serve humanity.

President Dr Arif Alvi, his address emphasised the role played by competent medical and dental professionals in the country's healthcare system.

He said that by putting focused efforts in the education and health sectors, Pakistan could excel within a few years. He also advised the young graduates to remain grateful to their teachers and parents for their unwavering support in shaping their bright futures.

A total of 23 gold, 23 silver, and 25 bronze medals were awarded to the MBBS class, while the BDS class received 27 gold, 25 silver, and 22 bronze medals.

Dr Muhammad Ali (MBBS) emerged as the best graduate of the session 2016-2021, attaining an exceptional record with 16 gold, 2 silver, 3 bronze medals, and 9 distinctions. Dr Arooba Mehmood (BDS) was honored as the best graduate of the session 2018-2022, with 15 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals, besides 8 distinctions.
