LAHORE: The Institute of Advanced Dental Sciences and Research (IADSR) successfully conducted a comprehensive one-day hands-on workshop on the restoration of endodontically treated teeth on March 1, 2025. This workshop was an integral part of the prestigious 17th Professional Diploma in Advanced General Dentistry (PDAGD), designed to equip dental practitioners with advanced clinical skills.

The session was led by the highly esteemed Dr. Salman Ashraf Khan (BDS, FRACDS - Australia, FCGDent - UK), an Associate Professor of Operative Dentistry and a Visiting Consultant Dental Surgeon at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre, Lahore. With a strong focus on Class IV restorations and diastema closure, Dr. Khan provided an in-depth understanding of modern restorative techniques.

Key Learning Highlights

Participants were trained in direct adhesive composite resin restorations, a minimally invasive approach that preserves tooth structure while achieving esthetic excellence. Dr. Khan emphasized:

  • Shade selection and color mapping for natural-looking restorations.
  • Composite layering techniques for achieving optimal aesthetics.
  • Preparation techniques for peg laterals and Class IV restorations.
  • Shaping, contouring, and polishing to enhance durability and aesthetics.
  • Dental photography techniques to document cases and improve clinical precision.

The workshop incorporated case study analysis where participants diagnosed real-world dental cases, formulated comprehensive treatment plans, and performed hands-on restorative procedures under expert supervision. Dr. Khan provided detailed feedback and addressed clinical queries, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience.

With a strong emphasis on practical application, the session allowed participants to gain hands-on expertise, making it a valuable addition to their clinical practice and professional growth.

The IADSR workshop successfully bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and clinical practice, empowering dental professionals with cutting-edge restorative techniques. As the demand for esthetic dentistry continues to rise, such advanced training opportunities play a pivotal role in shaping the future of operative dentistry.
