LAHORE: The Pakistan Dental Association (PDA) Lahore Chapter has unveiled a proposed framework for its upcoming elections, placing emphasis on broader participation, transparent governance, and greater engagement of the dental community in the organization's future leadership.

In a message shared with dentists, the chapter announced that its current office-bearers do not intend to contest the forthcoming elections. The decision, it said, is intended to encourage new leadership, create space for fresh ideas, and strengthen democratic participation within the profession.

The chapter has called upon eligible dentists and prospective electoral panels to actively take part in the election process, describing the polls as an important opportunity to shape the future direction of organized dentistry in Lahore.

As part of its proposed electoral model, PDA Lahore suggested extending voting rights to all valid PMDC-registered dentists, regardless of membership fee status. The chapter also proposed replacing voter fee requirements with a reasonable contribution from contesting panels to help cover election-related expenses, a move it believes would make the process more inclusive while preserving transparency and fairness.

Beyond the election announcement, PDA Lahore reflected on key initiatives undertaken during its tenure, highlighting efforts focused on professional education, mentorship, regulatory guidance, public health awareness, and support for private dental practitioners.

According to the chapter, a major focus of its work has been creating opportunities for hands-on learning and career development. Educational workshops, clinical training sessions, and mentorship programs involving senior academicians and experienced practitioners were organized to help young dentists enhance both their clinical and professional skills.

The organization also reported conducting awareness activities related to healthcare regulations, including guidance on Punjab Healthcare Commission requirements, clinic licensing procedures, regulatory compliance, and biomedical waste management practices aimed at helping dentists navigate evolving healthcare standards.

In the public health arena, PDA Lahore highlighted its oral cancer awareness initiatives, including a seminar hosted at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry and a collaborative awareness campaign with the Punjab Police Department. These activities sought to raise awareness about the growing burden of oral cancer and promote preventive healthcare measures among the public.

Another milestone cited by the chapter was its collaboration with the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which has expanded engagement opportunities with thousands of chamber members, their families, and employees. The chapter believes the partnership can improve public access to dental care while creating professional opportunities for dentists across different career stages.

As preparations for the elections continue, PDA Lahore says its primary objective remains strengthening professional unity, promoting ethical practice, supporting continuing education, and advancing oral health awareness across Pakistan's dental community.
