FAISALABAD: The Dental College of the University Medical & Dental College (UMDC) organized a photo essay competition titled “Smiles That Inspire,” highlighting the role of creativity and reflective learning in modern dental education.
Held under the leadership of Principal Prof. Dr. Mian Farrukh Imran, the event brought together students, faculty members, and healthcare professionals to explore the human and emotional dimensions of oral healthcare beyond clinical training.
The competition was arranged by the Department of Dental Education under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Fatima Amin, Director of Dental Education. Organizers said the initiative aimed to encourage students and faculty to express their perspectives on dentistry through photography and storytelling, emphasizing empathy, patient experience, and communication in healthcare practice.
Speakers at the event noted that medical and dental education worldwide is increasingly incorporating reflective and creative learning methods alongside technical training, in order to develop more compassionate and patient-centered professionals.
The event was attended by several prominent figures from academia and the health sector, including Prof. Dr. Amanullah Malik, Rector of The University of Faisalabad; Prof. Amir Ali Chaudhary; Dr. Tahmasub Faraz Tayyab; Associate Professor Dr. Hina Barkaat; Associate Professor Dr. Waqas Rashid; Prof. Dr. Sumera Badar Ehsan; Dr. Raheela Gauhar; Dr. Noor-i-Kiran; and Dr. Taimur-ul-Hassan.
Participants highlighted that such initiatives help future dentists move beyond procedural learning by encouraging reflection on the human stories behind patient care. Organizers reaffirmed UMDC’s commitment to fostering a balanced approach to dental education that integrates scientific training with creativity, empathy, and professional development.
