KARACHI: The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has recognized the pioneering work on Pressure Sensor Impression Tray by researchers at the Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine (AIDM) and Bahria University Dental College (BUDC), in collaboration with King Faisal University, Al-Ahsa (Saudi Arabia), making it country’s first-ever dental patent.

Prof. Dr. Naseer Ahmed, the lead inventor behind the groundbreaking patent for the "Pressure Sensor Impression Tray," was supported by a team of co-inventors from Pakistan, including Prof. Dr. Rizwan Jouhar and Dr. Asra Salahuddin from AIDM, and Prof. Dr. Afsheen Maqsood from BUDC. Additionally, Dr. Muhammad Adeel Ahmed and Muhammad Faheemuddin from Al-Ahsa (Saudi Arabia) contributed as co-inventors. The development of the Pressure Sensor Impression Tray promises to revolutionize prosthodontic procedures by enhancing the accuracy and precision of dental impressions.

These trays provide real-time feedback during the impression-taking process, ensuring optimal force distribution and enhancing the quality of dental restorations.

This collaboration between AIDM and BUDC marks the first time a dental institute in Pakistan has been granted a patent, underscoring their commitment to innovation, research, and excellence in dental education.

“We are proud to have contributed to the advancement of dental care globally,” says Prof Dr Naseer Ahmed.

Dr Asra Salahuddin adds, “This milestone reflects our institutions' dedication to fostering cutting-edge research and nurturing talent.”

This achievement positions Pakistan’s dental institutes on the global map of medical innovation, setting a new benchmark for research-driven healthcare advancements.
