Altamash Dental students visit pharmaceutical plant to gain industry exposure

KARACHI: Second-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) students from the Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine (AIDM) visited Platinum Pharmaceuticals as part of an educational initiative aimed at enhancing their understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing and its role in the healthcare system.

Organised by the Department of Community Dentistry, the visit was designed to complement classroom learning by exposing students to real-world pharmaceutical operations and the processes involved in medicine production.

The delegation was led by Dr Amir Akbar Shaikh, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Community Dentistry, along with faculty members Dr Nikita Bodani, Dr Anum Ilyas, Dr Alkesh Kammal, Dr Eman Aslam, Dr Fatima Jafri and Dr Zain Jabbar.

During the visit, students toured the manufacturing facility and observed various stages of pharmaceutical production, including formulation, quality control, packaging and safety protocols. They also learned about the regulatory standards and quality assurance measures that govern the production of medicines before they reach patients.

Faculty members said the visit helped students relate theoretical concepts to practical applications, while providing a broader perspective on the pharmaceutical industry's contribution to patient care and public health.

The Department of Community Dentistry thanked Platinum Pharmaceuticals for hosting the students and acknowledged the support of Mr Hafeez Arain, Deputy Director Marketing; Mr Adnan Siddiqui, Business Manager; Dr Hamna, Assistant Product Manager; Mr Abbass Ansari, Head of Sales; and Mr Omaid Nazim, Sales Manager, for facilitating the visit.

The department said it plans to continue collaborating with industry partners to provide students with practical learning opportunities that strengthen their professional knowledge and prepare them for the multidisciplinary nature of modern healthcare.
