KARACHI: The Department of Community and Preventive Dentistry at Altamash General Hospital, Karachi, recently conducted a community outreach program at British International School to promote dental awareness and educate students about the importance of oral hygiene.

Led by Dr. Amir Akbar Shaikh, Associate Professor & Head of the Department, and Dr. Naseer Ahmed, Assistant Professor, the initiative aimed to instill lifelong oral health habits among young students. As part of the awareness drive, students received toothpaste kits, generously sponsored by Dental News and Shield, encouraging them to adopt proper brushing routines. Special appreciation was extended to Mr. Hashim Hassan for his invaluable support in making this event possible.

The primary focus of this outreach was oral examinations and dental education, ensuring students understood the significance of good oral hygiene practices. A dedicated team of faculty members, including Dr. Shahrukh Pasha, Dr. Nikita Bodani, Dr. Agha, Dr. Waleed, and Dr. Areesha, along with second-year dental students, conducted interactive sessions covering essential topics such as:

Proper Brushing Techniques – Demonstrating the correct way to brush and floss for optimal oral health.
Diet & Dental Health – Educating students on the impact of nutrition on teeth and gums.
Regular Dental Check-ups – Encouraging routine dental visits to prevent oral diseases.

This initiative reinforced Altamash General Hospital’s commitment to community engagement and preventive dentistry, ensuring children develop healthy oral habits early in life. Through educational outreach programs, the faculty continues to play a crucial role in improving public dental health awareness and fostering a culture of preventive dental care in Karachi.
