LARKANA: Bibi Aseefa Dental College (BADC), Larkana, has organised a seminar on research questionnaire development to familiarise Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) students with the principles of designing effective research instruments and collecting meaningful data.
Organised by the Department of Community Dentistry, the seminar focused on helping students translate research objectives into clear, relevant questions and select appropriate response formats. The session also highlighted how carefully designed questionnaires can improve the quality of information gathered during academic research.
Prof. Dr. A. Bari Memon, Chairperson of the Department of Community Dentistry, and Dr. Nadeem H. Jatoi, Consultant Orthodontist, facilitated the seminar, guiding participants through the essential stages of questionnaire development.
The facilitators discussed common errors in question wording and explained the importance of validity, reliability and pre-testing before a questionnaire is used for data collection. These principles help researchers assess whether their questions measure what they are intended to measure, produce consistent results and are understandable to respondents.
Students participated actively in the session and engaged in an interactive discussion about developing questionnaires for their own research projects. The discussion provided an opportunity to clarify queries and explore how research objectives, question design and response choices work together when preparing a research instrument.
The seminar concluded with the distribution of certificates of participation to the students by the facilitators.
The activity formed part of the department’s efforts to familiarise undergraduate dental students with research methodology, providing them with foundational skills for planning studies, gathering reliable information and supporting evidence-informed dental practice.
