LARKANA: A team from the Bibi Aseefa Dental College (BADC), Larkana, led a Basic Oral Health Survey in a local market to assess the community’s oral health using dental instruments and the World Health Organization's oral screening survey form.
The survey, led by Dr Abdul Bari Memon, Associate Professor and Chairperson of the BADC Department of Community Dentistry helped identify and address oral health challenges faced by the local population.
By engaging with the community, valuable data was gathered that will help form future health strategies and design interventions. The initiative also highlighted prevalent oral health issues, for targeted public health campaigns and educational efforts.
BDS students from all academic years played a significant role in the survey’s success. Their active involvement not only ensured thorough screenings but also helped raise awareness by educating the community on the importance of good oral hygiene.
Dr Bari thanked Prof Dr Qaimuddin Shaikh, Principal of BADC, for his support and guidance for the project and lauded Mr Jibran Zafar, the transport officer, for arranging transportation at a short notice, which facilitated the smooth running of the survey.
He said this survey is an important step towards creating oral health awareness and providing dental care within the community.
The collected data will serve as a foundation for future research and public health initiatives, Dr Bari said appreciating the contributions of the students in making such impactful effort.
