Fierce competition as 1,750 candidates vie for 100 Pharm.D seats at JSMU entry test 2025

KARACHI: A highly competitive Pharm.D entrance examination took place on January 3, 2025, at Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), with 1,750 candidates battling for just 100 coveted seats in the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) 2025 program.

According to Dr. Fatima Abid, Director of Admissions at JSMU, 2,678 students from across Sindh applied for admission into the prestigious five-year Pharm.D degree program, but only 1,750 met the eligibility criteria and appeared for the test. She stated, "The entry test covers Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and English, with admissions offered on 70% open merit and 30% self-finance seats."

Vice Chancellor of JSMU, Prof. Amjad Siraj Memon, praised the transparent conduct of the examination and highlighted the excellence of JSMU’s pharmacy graduates. “Our Pharm.D alumni are making Pakistan proud globally, and the Pharmacy Department, recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), is driving the expansion of Ph.D. and M.Phil. programs in pharmaceutical sciences,” he remarked.

During the examination, Registrar Dr. Azam Khan and Controller of Examinations Dr. Fauzia Imtiaz inspected various test venues across the campus, expressing satisfaction with the arrangements and facilities provided to candidates. Additionally, Principal IPS-JSMU Prof. Huma Ali, along with Vice Principal Prof. Huma Shareef and their team, closely monitored the entire testing process to ensure a smooth and fair assessment.

This year’s Pharm.D entry test underscores the growing demand for high-quality pharmacy education in Pakistan, positioning JSMU as a leading institution fostering future pharmacists who will contribute to healthcare innovation at both national and international levels.
