KARACHI: The Fatima Jinnah Dental College (FJDC) recently hosted week-long "Diploma in Aesthetic Medicine" (Level 1) at its Pre-Clinical Campus, organized by the American Board of Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery (ABAMS), offering advanced training in contemporary aesthetic procedures.

The program featured trainers from ABAMS and the Academy of Aesthetic & Regenerative Medicine (AARM), including Dr. Fahad Usman, a Board-Certified Aesthetic Physician and Senior Faculty at ABAMS; Dr. Islam Kassem, a Maxillofacial Surgeon and Senior Faculty at ABAMS; Dr. Andaleeb Khan, a Dermatologist and Faculty at AARM; Dr. Sadaf Saeed, a Plastic Surgeon and Faculty at AARM; and Dr. Nazia Bhurgri, an MBBS RMP and Faculty Member at AARM-PAK.

The curriculum covered a wide range of topics and practical skills.

On the first day, participants received a specialized lecture on Botox injections, with a focus on facial anatomy, anatomical landmarks, dosage calculations, and complication management. This was followed by hands-on training sessions on real patients.

The second day was dedicated to the use of energy-based devices and laser technology, with practical applications in aesthetics, including HydraFacial and micro-needling.

Dr. Nazia Bhurgri also conducted a session on chemical peels, integrating lectures with practical training.

On day three, the focus was on an in-depth study of facial anatomy, crucial for the effective application of dermal fillers. Dr. Sadaf Saeed led participants through the intricacies of anatomical landmarks, musculature, vascular anatomy, and nerves, emphasizing personalized treatment planning with hands-on demonstrations.

On the fourth day, the focus shifted to Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and Mesotherapy. Dr. Fahad Usman demonstrated PRP extraction and administration, coupled with practical training using derma pens and micro-needling techniques.

The final day centered on facial thread lifts, with Dr. Islam Kassem providing a comprehensive lecture on patient selection, thread placement techniques, and post-procedure care. Participants were given the opportunity to practice these advanced techniques live on patients.

The training concluded with a certificate awarding ceremony, recognizing the participants' successful completion of the rigorous program.

The event highlighted FJDC's commitment to advancing healthcare education and setting new standards in aesthetic medicine training in the region.
