KARACHI: Fatima Jinnah Dental College (FJDC) students demonstrated exceptional creativity, scientific understanding, and academic commitment at the 3D oral biology model competition hosted by Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS). The annual event brought together dental students from across Karachi to present anatomical and histological 3D models that blended scientific accuracy with creative craftsmanship.
The competition aimed to strengthen experiential learning by encouraging young scholars to convert theoretical concepts into tangible educational models. FJDC’s participation highlighted its focus on critical thinking, hands-on learning, and collaborative problem-solving—core values shaping its academic philosophy.
FJDC teams impress with scientific depth, creative innovation
Four teams of first year B.D.S students represented FJDC under the guidance of the Department of Oral Biology’s dedicated faculty. Their detailed models were praised for accuracy, clarity, and artistic execution.
- Team 1 presented a 3D model on dental anomalies under the supervision of Dr. Laiba Afzal, illustrating developmental variations and their clinical relevance.
- Team 2 showcased a precise 3D model of oral mucosa, guided by Dr. Hafsa, highlighting epithelial layers and functional adaptations.
- Team 3 created an intricate histology of tongue model with support from Dr. Mariam Haroon, effectively depicting papillae, taste buds, and tissue architecture.
- Team 4 designed a detailed anatomical cross-section of a tooth, facilitated by Dr. Kashaf Ilyas, emphasizing enamel, dentin, pulp, and surrounding anatomical harmony.
Hands-on learning strengthens dental education
The competition reinforced the importance of practical engagement in understanding oral biology. By visualizing and constructing anatomical structures, students gained a deeper grasp of complex biological concepts—achievements that traditional textbook-based learning alone cannot fully support.
FJDC reiterates commitment to academic excellence
Faculty members expressed pride in the students’ performance, noting that their enthusiasm and teamwork reflect FJDC’s mission to cultivate academically strong, innovative, and professionally responsible dental graduates. The college also extended gratitude to DUHS for hosting the event and promoting inter-institutional collaboration.
Such competitions play a vital role in fostering creativity, scientific inquiry, and leadership—qualities essential for future dental professionals contributing to Pakistan’s evolving healthcare landscape.
