KARACHI – Pakistan Red Crescent Society’s (PRCS) Sindh chapter has activated its disaster management mechanism by deploying Branch Disaster Response Teams (BDRT) in flood-affected areas of the province.
According to a press release issued by the PRCS-Sindh Branch, a 24/7 flood emergency control room has been set up at its provincial headquarters to monitor the flood situation.
Specialized emergency assessment teams, comprising staff and volunteers from the provincial HQ and district branches, will gather emergency information. PRCS-Sindh medical units such as mobile health units (MHUs) along with health staff are also on standby for possible deployment in the affected districts to facilitate medical interventions. In addition to activate the unit, the provincial HQ has instructed the Red Crescent hospitals and medical facilities in Hyderabad, Sukkur and Khairpur for the activation of their emergency protocols to respond to any surge in flooding situation anywhere in the province.
Moreover, Red Crescent 4×4 ambulances have been relocated on strategic places at its district branches for the back-up support.
Sindh Red Crescent has also put on alert the Karachi-based Urban Disaster Response Teams (UDRTs) in five districts of the city to support the local government in case of any emergency.
The PRCS’ Sindh logistics department in collaboration with disaster management and health department also activated the pre-determined supply chain management procedures for the pre-positioning of disaster preparedness, stock and medicines for flood relief effort.
