PESHAWAR: A free dental screening and oral health awareness camp was organized in Peshawar, providing relief to more than 200 individuals and highlighting the importance of preventive dental care in underserved communities.

The initiative was jointly arranged by Khushali Welfare Foundation, Aga Khan Health Board Peshawar, Ismaili Civic Pakistan, and Rehman College of Dentistry at Amin Community Hall. The programme aimed to address gaps in oral health awareness and improve access to basic dental services.

During the camp, participants received free dental check-ups, basic treatments, and professional oral examinations, while subsidized rates were offered for advanced dental procedures where required. Organizers said the initiative reflected growing demand for accessible oral healthcare and the need for regular community-level interventions.

Alongside clinical services, an oral health awareness session was conducted focusing on proper dental hygiene practices, preventive care, importance of regular check-ups, and early detection of oral diseases. Dental professionals emphasized that lack of awareness and delayed treatment continue to contribute to a high burden of oral health issues in Pakistan.

Healthcare experts note that untreated dental conditions can lead to pain, infections, nutritional difficulties, and reduced quality of life, making preventive care essential for long-term public health improvement.

Rehman College of Dentistry played a key role in facilitating the medical services, while healthcare professionals and volunteers from partner organizations contributed to the success of the initiative. Organizers appreciated the efforts of all collaborators, including Dr. Rumeena Imran and Dr. Insha Ali, for their leadership in promoting community oral health.

Public health specialists say such dental camps are increasingly important in Pakistan, where preventive healthcare remains limited, especially in low-resource communities. They stress that awareness drives and screening initiatives can help reduce long-term disease burden and improve overall community wellbeing.
