ISLAMABAD: The Department of Orthodontics at Foundation University College of Dentistry & Hospital (FUCD&H) recently conducted a one-day interactive workshop titled “From Straight Wires to Strategic Loops: Enhancing Control in Orthodontics” . The workshop served as a pre-conference session for the 11th International Orthodontics Conference: Smile 2.0, organized by the Pakistan Association of Orthodontics, attracting 45 registered participants.

Expert-led lectures and hands-on sessions

The workshop featured two distinguished facilitators: Prof. Dr. Rozina Nazir, HOD Orthodontics at FUCD&H, and Dr. Sohaib Hassan, Consultant Orthodontist. They delivered interactive lectures on orthodontic biomechanics followed by practical hands-on wire bending sessions, demonstrating the fabrication and activation of various orthodontic loops.

Participants practiced wire bending techniques under direct supervision and received constructive feedback, enabling them to improve loop design and activation for clinical applications.

Key learning outcomes for participants included:

  • Understanding why loop mechanics are superior to sliding mechanics.
  • Demonstrating proficiency in fabricating and activating orthodontic loops.
  • Recognizing and correcting common mistakes in loop design and implementation.
  • Analyzing force systems generated by loop activation and their effects on tooth movement.
  • Designing custom loop configurations for space closure, anchorage control, and torque management.
  • Applying Mulligan Mechanics in daily clinical practice.

Certificates awarded and recognition

The event concluded with certificate presentations by Principal/Dean Maj Gen Waseem Ahmed (Retd), who commended the facilitators and organizing team for conducting a highly productive and well-received educational workshop.

The workshop reflects FUCD&H’s commitment to advancing orthodontic education, promoting practical skills, and fostering innovation in clinical practice.
