KARACHI- Construction of a new building for housing Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre’s Institute of Paramedical Technology could not be completed despite a lapse of several years and the expensive equipments purchased for it have been gathering dust and rusting, sources confided to Medical News.
Though the construction of the building was initiated about seven years back, the federal government left the project, costing millions of rupees, unfinished after devolution of JPMC to Sindh province under the 18th Amendment, they added.
The work on project was initiated by the Federal Works and Services Department, but the contractor taking undue advantage of the hospital’s devolution to Sindh government, reportedly handed over the building’s remaining work to his relatives who are taking no interest in completing the project.
“All the necessary equipments and instruments which were purchased for the Institute’s new building have been lying in different departments of the hospital,” sources claimed.
JPMC’s deputy director (Administration) Dr Jawaid Jamali when contacted said that the building of the Institute of Paramedical Technology has not yet been handed over to the hospital’s administration.
JPMC administration, he added, has already requested Sindh government to provide funds for completion of remaining work of the building and the government will be releasing the funds by August 2015.
