PESHAWAR: The Khyber Medical University (KMU) recently hosted the 2nd BMedCon’23 International Conference "Spectrum of Discoveries," attended by experts in the field of basic medical sciences, providing a platform for insightful discussions and presentations on the subject.
Vice Dean Prof Dr Muslim Khan, representing Khyber College of Dentistry, delivered a compelling talk on oral carcinoma from a surgeon's perspective. Prof Muslim emphasized the significance of tumor boards and the integration of basic and dental sciences in oral cancer management.
Associate Prof Dr Shazia Makhdoom, from the Department of Community Dentistry, spoke on issues related to oral health-related quality of life and its associated factors in elderly populations.
Associate Dean Dr Samrina Mohammad, from the Department of Oral Pathology, presented a poster highlighting the importance of prognostic and predictive markers in oral cancer and their role in treatment monitoring.
Prof Dr Arshad Malik, a renowned dental surgeon and academician, the keynote speaker and a session judge, appreciated the efforts of the organizers, particularly Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nasir Ahmad and Dr Binish Aleem.
The conference, featuring a series of workshops, plenary sessions, poster presentations, and oral presentations, was participated by 12 prominent international speakers from around the world and over 40 speakers from various regions of Pakistan.
Medical experts and researchers emphasized the significance of research and innovation in basic medical sciences during the opening ceremony.
Chief organizer Dr Zille Huma said the conference was unique due to its focus on exploring new avenues in basic medical sciences.
The event drew undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as faculty members from both basic and clinical sciences.
VC KMU Prof Dr Ziaul Haq expressed pride in the comprehensive curriculum at KMU covering subjects from anatomy and physiology to biochemistry, forensic medicine, pathology, and pharmaceutical science from BS to Ph.D. levels.
He highlighted the global appeal of the conference, with 12 distinguished speakers from Malaysia, China, Spain, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates, in addition to 40-plus experts from various regions of Pakistan.
The conference garnered an overwhelming response, with over 500 registrations and counting, reflecting the enthusiasm of professionals, researchers, and students to engage with the latest developments in basic medical sciences.
The 32 planned workshops at KMU and its constituent campuses provided participants with immersive and interactive experiences to explore specific areas of interest during the conference.
