KARACHI- Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) administration has suspended three employees (washer men) and issued them show-causes notices on the charges of running a heavy dry cleaning machinery on commercial basis in government quarters allotted to them for residential pupose.
JPMC’s deputy director(Admin), Dr Jawaid Jamali, said three employees have been suspended on the charges of running heavy laundry machines on commercial basis. He said administration has issued them show-cause notices, besides an FIR had been lodged against them.
Sources at JPMC, on condition of anonymity, said some washer men of the hospital had unlawfully installed a heavy dry cleaning machinery a few years ago and since then they were providing laundry service to the residents of Saddar, Bizzarta Line and nearby hotels on commercial basis.
They had been running their laundry business by unlawfully using the hospital’s electricity, gas and water since long, the sources added.
They said these employees who are working in JPMC’s laundry department since long have also constructed illegal houses in the premises of the hospital.
The JPMC administration had earlier warned them but they continued their illegal activities. The hospital’s administration has also reportedly asked them to vacate the servant quarters as soon as possible.
