KARACHI: The 8th International Conference on Patient Safety (ICPS) 2025 marked a significant milestone in advancing healthcare excellence in Pakistan by hosting a dedicated pre-conference workshop on “Patient Safety in Dentistry” on April 18, 2025, at Liaquat College of Medicine & Dentistry (LCMD), Karachi.

Jointly organized by Riphah Institute of Healthcare Improvement & Safety, Liaquat College of Medicine & Dentistry, and supported by the Pakistan Dental Association (PDA) Karachi, this collaborative event was a resounding success. It brought together key experts, healthcare professionals, and dental educators under one roof to address one of the most pressing issues in modern dental care—patient safety.

A timely and much-needed dialogue

As dental procedures grow increasingly complex, the importance of maintaining strict safety standards in clinical practice has never been more essential. The ICPS 2025 pre-conference workshop offered a dedicated platform to explore the latest in global patient safety protocols, especially in the dental context.

Held under the broader ICPS 2025 theme of “Technology and Patient Safety”, the workshop attracted professionals from across the healthcare spectrum—including hospital administrators, dentists, infection prevention experts, dental technicians, nurses, and educators.

Expert-led insights on patient safety in dentistry

The session was led by a distinguished panel of dental and patient safety experts:

  • Prof. Dr. Navid Rashid Qureshi – Principal, LCMD
  • Abdul Razaq Khan – COO, Islamic International Dental Hospital & Faculty, Riphah University
  • Dr. Kamran Parvez – Consultant Dental Surgeon, Bahria Town International Hospital
  • Dr. Faisal Hanif – Consultant, Islamic International Dental Hospital
  • Prof. Dr. Uzma Zareef – Head of Oral Pathology, LCMD, and Chairperson CDEC

Their presentations and discussions emphasized high-risk areas in dentistry, adverse event management, infection prevention strategies, and the integration of patient safety in the dental curriculum—highlighting the role of a safety-first mindset in building patient trust and improving clinical outcomes.

Workshop outcomes and future directions

The event proved to be a milestone in bridging the gap between dental education and clinical safety protocols. Participants were encouraged to carry forward the dialogue on patient safety in their respective institutions and practices.

The organizers emphasized the importance of continual training, safety audits, and implementing evidence-based guidelines as essential tools for minimizing patient harm in dental settings.

Congratulations and acknowledgments
