ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi has called upon all stakeholders, including the media, influencers, and community leaders, to actively raise awareness about HIV/AIDS to prevent its further spread in the country.
In a message marking World AIDS Day, the president stressed the need to intensify efforts for preventing HIV transmission, establishing surveillance systems, reducing stigma, training health staff, and strengthening institutional frameworks.
World AIDS Day, observed under the theme "Let communities lead," aims to underscore the crucial role communities play in advancing progress toward ending AIDS.
President Alvi stated that ending the HIV epidemic requires collective efforts at the community level, visionary thinking, and a steadfast commitment to reaching even the most marginalised populations and improving the outreach of health services.
Reaffirming his commitment, President Alvi pledged to strengthen the national HIV response, promote innovative data-driven solutions, and eliminate the stigma and discrimination associated with the disease. He expressed his determination to fortify the health system, formulate evidence-based policies, and reduce the incidence of new infections.
Highlighting Pakistan's efforts, President Alvi mentioned the introduction of comprehensive health, nutrition, and support service packages as part of the national social security programmes. He asserted that Pakistan has the ability and determination to enhance the quality of life for those affected by this preventable yet treatable disease.
He called for reflection on the successes and challenges of the past, urging collective action to make Pakistan HIV-free. He emphasised the nation's commitment to reaching individuals of all ages and backgrounds, empowering them to make healthy lifestyle choices, and rectifying health disparities.
The president concluded his message by expressing confidence in paving the path to a brighter and healthier future for all through joint efforts.
