Quiz contest held at BUHS among BDS students

KARACHI: To encourage learning and confidence among Third and Final Year BDS students, and hone their presentation skills, the Bahria University Health Sciences Campus (BUHS) Department of Operative Dentistry recently organized a Quiz competition as part of their end rotational activity.

Such interactive activities also make students retain and recall knowledge more efficiently than the conventional method of written assessments and examination.

The event held in the Conference Room, was organized under the patronage of the Head of Department of Operative Dentistry, Prof Dr Shama Asghar.

The participating students were randomly allocated groups of four, comprising two third year and two final year students each. The groups participated in three rounds of the quiz competition in which they had to quickly answer a set of operative questions.

The topics of the quiz included a wide range of Operative Dentistry and Endodontic concepts, like cross infection control and sterilization, restorative and endodontic instruments, restorative materials, radiographs and trauma. The group answering the maximum questions proceeded to the second round. A buzzer round eliminated the tie groups.

The event organizers were Final Year Supervisors Dr Maliha Naveed (SR Paedodontics) and Dr Syed Adeel Ahmed and Third Year Supervisors Dr Umeed Javaid (SR Operative) and Dr Imtiaz ul Haq (SR Operative).

Operative Dentistry Department Senior faculty, including Dr Ayesha Zafar (AP Operative), acted as jury. The winners of the competition from both years were awarded certificates by Dr Saad Maroof (Registrar Paedodontics).

The event concluded with a note of encouragement for all participants from Prof Dr. Shama Asghar.
