RIHS holds intra-college research fair 2025

ISLAMABAD: The Rawal Institute of Health Sciences (RIHS) recently hosted its highly anticipated Intra-College Research Fair 2025, bringing together students and faculty from the colleges of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, and Rehabilitation Sciences to foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and academic excellence.

Held on campus, the event served as a dynamic platform for students to share research ideas, develop communication skills, and engage in critical thinking. The program began with a welcome address by Prof Dr Shakaib Anwar, Principal of Rawal College of Medicine, who underscored the importance of such academic forums in nurturing scientific curiosity and lifelong learning.

Competitions that inspired curiosity and excellence

The event featured three core competitions aimed at showcasing diverse research skills:

PowerPoint presentation competition

Students presented impactful studies on topics ranging from herbal alternatives in root canal treatment to dietary impacts on orthodontic brackets.

  • Dr Ahmed Iftikhar from Orthodontics secured first prize among postgraduate students.
  • MBBS students Shayan Hussain and Shazam Nawaz took top honors among undergraduates.

These presentations emphasized the value of clarity in scientific communication and analytical thinking.

Video submission competition

Centered on the theme “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Future”, students created educational content on early oral health.

  • Dr Fatima Tanzeem won first place with her animated video “Molly the Molar”, which delivered key dental health messages in a creative and engaging format.

Poster display competition

With visually compelling designs and evidence-based research, students explored topics like artificial intelligence in dental education and social acceptance of smile aesthetics.

  • M. Ali's winning poster on AI in dentistry highlighted the future-oriented mindset of young researchers at RIHS.

Thought leadership and recognition

Renowned faculty members, Prof Dr Rubina Mumtaz, Head of Community Dentistry, and Prof Dr Mirza Inam Ul Haq, Head of Community Medicine, spoke about the need to embed research deeply into institutional culture. They stressed that cultivating research habits helps enhance clinical reasoning and decision-making.

Certificates were awarded to all winners and participants, followed by a group photograph to commemorate the occasion. Refreshments were served in celebration of the students’ hard work and achievements.

A vision for research-driven healthcare education

The closing address by Prof Dr Saad Asad, Principal of Rawal College of Dentistry, applauded the commitment and enthusiasm of all participants and organizers. He encouraged students to continue their research journey beyond academic requirements, emphasizing that innovation and inquiry are essential to healthcare advancement.

RIHS’s Intra-College Research Fair 2025 successfully exemplified the institution’s dedication to research-driven education, interdisciplinary learning, and the grooming of skilled, compassionate healthcare professionals ready to lead in their fields.
