ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has reaffirmed the government's unwavering commitment to bolster the nation's response to HIV, with the ultimate goal of achieving an AIDS-free Pakistan.
In a statement issued on the occasion of World AIDS Day 2023, Prime Minister Kakar urged collective efforts towards realizing the shared vision of an AIDS-free Pakistan, emphasizing that accessible healthcare should be a fundamental right for all citizens.
Highlighting the multifaceted nature of the HIV/AIDS challenge, he pointed out its profound socio-economic repercussions. Prime Minister Kakar expressed concern over the existing disparities in HIV testing and treatment coverage, prompting him to question whether the healthcare system was effectively reaching those in need.
He acknowledged that despite years of collective endeavors and resource allocation, the trajectory of the epidemic remained a cause for concern. Prime Minister Kakar underscored the need for innovative, impactful, and sustainable programs to address the persistent barriers and challenges faced in HIV prevention and treatment.
The Prime Minister pledged the government's dedication to prioritizing both the political and financial dimensions of HIV prevention. He emphasized the importance of closing gaps in the service cascade, particularly in preventing mother-to-child HIV transmission, with the aim of ensuring that every child is born free from the burden of HIV.
Prime Minister Kakar stressed the necessity of swift and widespread implementation of new prevention tools, with a commitment to reaching every corner of the nation. He emphasized the importance of equitable healthcare access, especially for those segments of society at increased risk of HIV.
In closing, Prime Minister Kakar called upon all partners engaged in the HIV response to collaborate with the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination to safeguard the well-being of future generations. He urged unity and community-led initiatives in this vital national endeavor.
