KARACHI: Ziauddin University (ZU) recently introduced Pakistan's first-ever Virtual Reality (VR) Dental Simulators, known as Virteasy Dental. It's a powerful tool installed at the Digital Dental Lab of the College of Dentistry, ZU.

Dr Asim Hussain, Chancellor, ZU, inaugurated the VR Dental Simulator laboratory, enhancing educational standards and making ZU a technology leader in Pakistan.

He said that for the first time in the history of Pakistan, ZU introduced the VR Dental Simulator, which would help students get technology-based learning. ZU has been at the forefront of growth innovation and digitalisation, and it was the third project this year that they had done for digitalisation, said Dr Asim Hussain while addressing the management of ZU.

According to Dr Asim, the VR Dental Simulator was the most technologically advanced 3D dental visualisation tool adopted by many of the world's leading medical schools and institutions. He further said VR Dental Simulators were becoming an essential part of modern education.

James Markey, Global Operation for HVR Simulations, briefed dental students and said,

"Virteasy Dental is a 3D dental surgery training simulator during the training and demonstration session. It bridges the missing link between theory and clinical training. Virteasy Dental covers training in several disciplines and provides an innovative approach that facilitates training in the practice of procedures and diagnosis."

"Using the latest technologies of haptic and virtual reality, this simulator brings improvements in student training as well as in student's assessment. It provides an innovative approach to facilitate gesture and diagnosis training, which helps in simulation-based student training and allows the candidates to be perfectly trained before actual clinical practice on the patients. It also allows postgraduate students to polish their clinical skills using minimal resources."

Dr Mervyn Hosein, Principal, College of Dentistry, ZU, during a welcome address on the launch of the occasion, said, "Ziauddin University is a standard university. The same policies apply across our various faculties, just as steroids and antibiotics revolutionise healthcare and computer changes humans."

"Ion technology allows us to teach unique techniques and immiscible experiences. Firstly, we had the Anatomage dissection table and now VR Simulator for students' better learning and great experiment skills. Ziauddin University is the first to bring these digital technologies into universities for better learning", he concluded.
