LAHORE: The Institute of Advanced Dental Sciences and Research (IADSR) recently conducted a comprehensive two-day hands-on workshop on endodontics as part of its 18th Professional Diploma in Advanced General Dentistry (PDAGD).

Led by seasoned endodontist Dr. Salman Aziz, the workshop aimed to strengthen participants' practical understanding of modern endodontic procedures through an evidence-based, clinically immersive approach. The sessions reflected IADSR’s commitment to continuing dental education and practice-based learning.

Focused modules with clinical precision

The first module focused on manual endodontics, including diagnostic strategies for effective case assessment. Dr. Salman guided participants through multiple endodontic testing techniques, helping them identify pulpal and periapical status with clinical accuracy.

The second module delved into access cavity preparation, a foundational element in root canal therapy. Participants restored proximal ridges and constructed pre-endodontic build-ups before performing the access opening, adhering to contemporary protocols and objectives.

Training on instrumentation and rotary techniques

In the third session, attendees learned about the dimensions, types, and recognition of burs used in endodontics. They also practiced determining the working length and performed initial canal shaping with manual ProTaper files.

Dr. Salman then introduced rotary endodontics, elaborating on its principles and techniques. Through a live demonstration and guided practice using the ProTaper Universal Rotary System, participants conducted full endodontic procedures under expert supervision.

Outcomes-driven learning

Throughout the workshop, individual complications and challenges faced during exercises were addressed by Dr. Salman in real-time. This ensured not only skill refinement, but also a deeper understanding of procedural decision-making and complication management.

By the conclusion of the workshop, all participants had met the desired learning outcomes, reinforcing their clinical confidence in both manual and rotary endodontic systems.
