BADC's dental research makes global waves at international health conference

KARACHI: Pakistan is emerging as a significant contributor to global dental research, showcasing its innovation and expertise at the 3rd International Conference on Emerging Trends in Health Sciences held at Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU), Larkana. The event brought together leading academics, researchers, and students to highlight the latest advancements in health sciences, with dentistry taking center stage.

Bibi Aseefa Dental College (BADC) Larkana demonstrated remarkable academic leadership, presenting research that reflects Pakistan’s growing footprint in modern dental practice. The dedicated dental session featured ten research papers covering cutting-edge topics such as digital dentistry, advanced prosthodontics, and minimally invasive techniques, illustrating how local research is aligning with global trends.

Prof. Kashif Channar from Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) contributed key insights in the plenary session, while Dr. Usman Bashir Shaikh, head of Prosthodontics at Liaquat College of Medicine and Dentistry, delivered a keynote on “Missing Teeth in Dentistry,” discussing modern diagnostic approaches and innovative rehabilitation techniques.

Faculty members from BADC, including Dr. Rashid Iqbal (Operative Dentistry) and Dr. Sana Sattar Shaikh (Prosthodontics), presented their research, demonstrating the institution’s commitment to evidence-based dentistry. Additionally, six student research groups showcased their work in free paper sessions, highlighting strong undergraduate engagement in scientific inquiry and clinical research.

The presentations drew widespread appreciation from participants across medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and physical therapy, emphasizing dentistry’s evolving role in multidisciplinary health care. The event reinforced Pakistan’s position as a growing hub of dental innovation and scholarly activity, inspiring future collaborations and international recognition.
