KARACHI: The Department of Community Dentistry at DOW Dental College (DDC), keeping up its commitment to educate the young members of society about their oral health held a dental

camp at the Sirat ul Jannah orphanage as part of its regular Community Outreach Programme.

The programme aims to bridge the gap between the local community and healthcare institutions, fostering a collaborative effort to raise awareness and emphasise the importance of preventive oral care over treatment.

Under the guidance of Assistant Professor Muhammad Taqi, along with Dr Adnan and Dr Babar Zia, the Faculty of Community Dentistry, in collaboration with the DDC, Students Assembly, a team of volunteer students visited the orphanage and interacted with 85 resident children.

The day's agenda was packed with informative presentations, engaging animated videos covering basic dental knowledge, and the essential aspects of proper brushing and flossing.

A highlight of the event was a practical demonstration teaching the children the correct brushing techniques using dental models. Subsequently, a lively quiz based on the information shared was conducted, with the successful participants receiving goodie bags containing toothpaste, stationery items, and vibrant stickers.

Concurrently, dental checkups were conducted, during which the doctors not only assessed the children's dental health but also provided guidance on preventive measures and necessary referrals.

As the event drew to a close, the children actively participated in various delightful activities, notably hand painting.

The orphanage teachers and principal commended the team's efforts, clearly indicating that the dental students had not only imparted knowledge but also fostered an environment of enthusiastic learning for the children.
