KARACHI: Dr Farjad Zafar continues to distinguish himself as one of Pakistan’s most dynamic dental academics and biomaterials researchers. Following the successful defence of his Ph.D. earlier this year, he has broadened his contributions in dental research, innovation, and academic leadership — positioning Pakistan prominently on the global scientific map.
Dr Farjad’s work focuses on biomaterials and localized drug delivery systems, advancing the development of PEGylated biodegradable chitosan xerogels and oral drug delivery chips for periodontal therapy. These innovations represent a significant leap toward more effective and sustained-release treatments for oral diseases, improving precision and patient outcomes.
In recognition of his pioneering contributions, Dr Farjad has filed six patents covering novel biomaterial compositions and regenerative dental applications. His filings include antibiotic-loaded xerogels, hydroxyapatite-based regenerative systems, and self-assembling scaffolds for teeth whitening — innovations that demonstrate clear translational potential from lab to clinic.
Since March 2025, Dr Farjad has published multiple high-impact research papers in internationally recognized journals such as Scientific Reports (Nature), Current Drug Delivery (Bentham Science), and RSC Pharmaceutics (Royal Society of Chemistry). His recent publications highlight new frontiers in regenerative dentistry and oral therapeutics, earning widespread academic attention.
As a certified peer reviewer for Nature, he also evaluates submissions for Springer Nature and Wiley, strengthening his reputation as a trusted authority in dental biomaterials and pharmaceutical sciences. Further reinforcing his expertise, he has authored a forthcoming Elsevier book chapter titled Drugs and Polymers for Local Drug Delivery in Periodontal Diseases for the globally renowned series Profiles of Drug Substances, Excipients, and Related Methodology (Vol. 52, 2027).
At Baqai Dental College, Dr Farjad serves in multiple leadership capacities — Assistant Professor of Dental Materials Sciences, Head of the Department of Dental Implantology, Clinical Operations Director at Executive Dental Clinic, and Dean Coordinator. Through these roles, he is actively involved in academic development, postgraduate training, and strategic institutional planning.
He also supervises several MPhil and undergraduate research projects, mentoring early-career scientists to develop Pakistan’s next generation of dental researchers. His integrated approach — combining scientific innovation, clinical expertise, and educational mentorship — reflects his commitment to advancing the country’s academic excellence in dental sciences.
With a rapidly expanding portfolio of patents, publications, and leadership roles, Dr Farjad Zafar stands as a leading voice in dental biomaterials and localized drug delivery research, inspiring students, peers, and the wider scientific community while bringing international recognition to Baqai Dental College and Pakistan’s dental research sector.
