DUHS prepares dental graduates for careers beyond clinical practice

KARACHI: Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), through its School of Dental Care Professionals in collaboration with the Institute of Business and Health Management (IBHM), organized a career counselling session for newly graduated students of the Dental Hygiene and Dental Technology programmes to help them plan their professional development beyond their mandatory internship.

The session was held as graduates prepare to begin their one-year paid internship programme, providing guidance on long-term career planning and encouraging them to explore opportunities beyond traditional clinical roles.

During the programme, participants were encouraged to adopt a strategic approach to career development by considering higher education as a means of expanding their professional opportunities and enhancing their future prospects.

Faculty members highlighted that graduates could strengthen their expertise in Dental Hygiene and Dental Technology by pursuing postgraduate studies in disciplines such as Healthcare Management, Public Health, Health Informatics, Business Administration, Education and Research, enabling them to take on leadership roles within the evolving healthcare sector.

The speakers emphasized that lifelong learning and interdisciplinary education have become increasingly important in preparing healthcare professionals for changing industry demands and broader career pathways.

According to the organizers, the initiative reflects DUHS's commitment to supporting graduates throughout their professional journey by equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed for leadership, innovation and continued academic growth.
