KARACHI – Pakistan Red Crescent Society’s (PRCS) Sindh chapter has deployed its medical and assessment teams in the flood-affected districts of the province.
The teams deployed in Ghotki, Badin and Jamshoro would also cover other areas such as Khairpur, Kashmore, Sehwan and Thatta.
The decision to deploy teams in the flood-affected districts of the province was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of PRCS’s Sindh chapter’s secretary Kanwar Waseem at the city’s Hilal-e-Ahmer House.
The Sindh Branch with the support of PRCS-National Headquarter, Islamabad, will immediately dispatch the relief goods, including food and non-food items to the flood-affected people.
PRCS’ Sindh chapter has already activated its disaster management mechanism and deployed Branch Disaster Response Teams (BDRT) in the flood-affected areas of the province. The volunteers of BDRT have been assisting the local authorities in evacuating people from the affected areas and in taking them to safer places. A 24/7 flood emergency control room has been established at PRCS’ provincial headquarters in Karachi to monitor the flood situation.
Moreover, medical units such as mobile health units along with health staff have also been deployed in the affected districts to facilitate medical interventions. Besides, the provincial HQ has already instructed the Red Crescent hospitals and medical facilities located in Hyderabad, Sukkur and Khairpur to activate their emergency protocols so as to respond quickly to any surge in flooding situation anywhere in the province.
