KARACHI: Pakistani dental student Jaint Kumar is making waves in international oral health circles, emerging as a young leader reshaping how communities approach dental care worldwide. Representing Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine (AIDM), Kumar delivered a standout presentation at the Alliance for Oral Health Across Borders (AOHAB) Global Oral Health Leadership Alumni Event, earning praise from global experts.

As part of the Student Leadership in Global Oral Health (SLGOH) Program 2025, Kumar showcased his journey in addressing oral health disparities through research, community engagement, and leadership. His session highlighted how emerging professionals from Pakistan can influence global discussions and inspire practical change in oral health systems.

The event convened a distinguished international audience, including Dr. Matilde Hernandez (Colgate, USA), Dr. Shaimaa Shihab (UAE), and Dr. Hildah Nkonde (Zambia), fostering an environment for sharing innovative strategies to strengthen oral health worldwide.

Kumar spotlighted his award-winning research project, “Smile Guardians: Oral Health Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices of Caregivers of Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in Karachi, Pakistan,” which secured Second Prize for Best Research Poster at the AADMD Conference 2025 in Phoenix, Arizona. The study emphasizes the gaps in caregiver knowledge and advocates for structured training to improve dental care for underserved populations.

Beyond research, Kumar is actively implementing initiatives across special education centers in Karachi, focusing on raising awareness among parents and caregivers to ensure sustainable oral health support for individuals with disabilities. He stressed the value of mentorship, international collaboration, and early engagement in research, encouraging peers to communicate confidently on global platforms.

“It is a privilege to represent Pakistan on the world stage,” Kumar said. “My aim is to integrate oral health, technology, and disability care while addressing broader challenges faced by communities.”

Kumar’s achievements signal a promising shift in Pakistan’s role in global health leadership. His journey exemplifies how dedicated young professionals can drive change, elevate national recognition, and contribute meaningfully to advancing oral health globally.
